Joan L. McAllister

February 14, 2012

Joan L. McAllister of Dunmore died Tuesday at the Hospice Unit of Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late of John E. and Anna Fahey McAllister and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. Prior to her retirement she was employed by the State of Pennsylvania. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore.

Surviving are a brother Jerome J. and wife Rosemary McAllister of Dunmore, a sister Ellen and husband Jack McDonough of Dunmore and a sister-in-law Mary McAllister of Saint Augustine, Florida, several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister Anne "Nancy" Sohns and two brothers William and Edward McAllister.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Albert P. Attorney David J. Reedy

February 10, 2011

Attorney David J. Reedy, a lifelong resident of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Friday at Saint Mary's Villa Nursing Home. His wife of fifty-five years Mary Fordham Reedy died December 10, 2000. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Attorney David J. and Agnes Grady Reedy. He was a graduate of Scranton Central High School, The College of the Holy Cross , and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He served our country in World War II as a Second Lieutenant in the 79 th Infantry Division under General George Patton. He was wounded in a battle in France after D-day and was awarded the Purple Heart. Following the war, he practiced law in Scranton for almost sixty years. He served as a Scranton City Solicitor for eight years and assistant for many more as well as Democratic City Chairman for sixteen years. He was active with the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the Elk's Club. He was a devoted member of Saint Clare's Church, Scranton.

He is survived by three sons, David J. and wife Kathryn Reedy of Easton, William F. and wife Nancy Reedy of Scranton, and Brian W. and wife Elaine Reedy of Northampton; two daughters Sally and husband George Worsnick of Roaring Brook Township, and Margaret and husband James Raevis of Fair Haven, NJ, a sister Helen Reedy Gallagher of Virginia , seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and very special n nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Alicia Reedy, a sister Margaret Reedy Harding, and a brother William Reedy, MD.

The family would like to thank the staff at Saint Mary's Villa Nursing Home for their compassionate care and kindness.

The funeral will be Monday with mass of Christian Burial a 10:00 A.M. at Saint Clare's Church 2301 North Washington Avenue , Scranton . Interment Saint Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. Gladys Brocavitch

January 23, 2012

Gladys Mary Brocavitch, 86, of Scranton died January 23rd at the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. She was married to George Brocavitch for over 66 years. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Joseph and Julia Dubinsky Duffy and was educated in Scranton schools and attended St. Peter’s Cathedral.

For over fifty years, Gladys and George were the owners and operators of “George’s Lunch” a popular restaurant on Scranton’s South side. Gladys dedicated her life to the restaurant and was well known by all for her generosity, kindness and concern for her customers. Her gentleness and love also spilled over to the many animals she raised and cared for throughout her life.

In addition to her husband, Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Denise Lynott and husband Francis, Clarks Summit and Sharon Gattens and husband Tom, Scranton. She is also survived by Grandchildren Jeffrey Gattens and wife Shannon and their three children Caleb, Noah and Eliza, West Orange, N.J.; Brian Lynott and wife Maggie, and sons Patrick, Brendan and Jonas, Clarks Summit; Todd Gattens and wife Ellen, Scranton, and their children Ireland, Cashel, Emerson, and Cian; and Kelly Sandone and husband Patrick, Waverly, PA. and their two sons Maximus and Marek. She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Doctor Michele A. Hazzouri for her compassionate care for their mother, and the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their support and care of Gladys in her final days. Mary Marie Flatley, 92, of Scranton died Tuesday at Abington Manor, Clarks Summit. She was preceded in death by her husband John Flatley who died September 27, 1983. Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marie McHale Earley. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Dempsey Textile and Linen Company for over thirty years. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore.

Surviving are a grandson, Shane Sands of Uniondale and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Sands.

Stella Mallick , of Scranton died Sunday at the Hospice Unit of Community Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Mallick who died in 1980. She was the daughter of the late John and Feliksa Kocian Pietrusczka. She was a member of Saint Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and their sisterhood of Scranton.

Surviving are two sons; Andrew and wife Lois Mallick of Greenf ield Twp, Michael and wife Joanne Mallick of Laurel, Maryland, a daughter Phyllis, and husband Darrell Burkhart of Montdale, seven grandchildren; Attorney Drew Mallick & wife Erin, Nicholas & Emily Mallick , Jessica Wisnewski & husband Alan ,Justin, Jeremy , and Jonathan Burkhart and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Lauren Burkhart & a nephew John Lenarts,Belgium. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jenny Lenarts. Stella was known to many as "Nana" and she was loved for her warm spirit and gentle ways.

James E. McNulty, 78, of Dunmore died Wednesday at home. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Alice E. Miles , R. N. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Martin and Margaret Fox McNulty and was a graduate of West Scranton High School. He served in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement he was a bookbinder for Haddon Craftsmen of Scranton. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church , Dunmore and was a lifetime member of the South Side Bachelors Club. He enjoyed sports,the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Steelers, he loved shooting pool and fishing with his friends. His favorite pastime was being with his friends at the Southside Bachelors Club. He loved his Irish music and loved to sing at parties. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are two sons, James E. and wife Michelle McNulty of Dickson City, and Daniel J. and wife BJ of Wilkes Barre, four grandchildren Ashley, Lindsay, Kelly and Daniel and a great-granddaughter Isabella and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Theresa McNulty, brothers Edward McNulty and Martin McNulty, and four sisters Dorothy McNulty, Margaret Pawling, Eleanor McNulty, and Mary May.

Marcia H. Scartelli

Marcia H. Scartelli, 72, of Dunmore, died Thursday at the Hospice Unit of the Regional Hospital of Scranton following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Marcia is survived by her husband of 18 years, Robert W. Scartelli , of Dunmore.

Born December 6, 1939 in Watertown, NY, the daughter of the late Sidney and Dorothy (Thomas) Hess. Marcia was a 1957 graduate of Henderson Central School. She served as the attendance clerk for the South Jefferson Central School District, Adams, NY, for 20 years, where she loved being a part of the lives of so many students. Marcia also worked in the restaurant industry throughout her life. She was employed by the Gill House Restaurant, Westview Lodge in Henderson Harbor, NY for many years. After moving to PA in 1994, she was employed by Stirna's Restaurant, Scranton, until her retirement last year. Marcia was an avid bowler. She also loved to travel, dance, and spend time with her family and friends. She was a member of the Henderson Methodist Church, Henderson, NY. After moving to PA, Marcia became a communicant of Saint Peter's Cathedral, Scranton, where she was an active member and volunteer, proudly serving as an usher.

Also surviving are four children, Thomas Fulkerson of Adams, NY; Karen Peebles and husband John of Adams, NY; Robin McDermott and husband Brian of Watertown, NY; and Christina Kuchak and husband Jack of Moosic; nine grandchildren T.R., Katie, Tara, Todd, Kirk, Aaron, Ashley, Morgan, and Brady; two great-grandchildren Jude and Reese; two sisters Nancy Quirk and husband Francis of Fulton, NY and Mary Jones and husband Bernie of Copenhagen, NY; a daughter-in-law Kim Fulkerson-Jareo of Adams, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert W. Fulkerson.

Maeve Ann McAliney, 12, of Scranton died Monday at Moses Taylor Hospital. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of Attorney Myles and Maureen O'Brien McAliney. She was a student at All Saints Academy , Scranton. Prior to that, she attended Regis Elementary School, Forty Fort. She was a member of Saint Paul's Church , Scranton.

Also surviving are two brothers Myles and Emmett McAliney and a sister Mary McAliney all at home ; paternal grandfather Peter McAliney of Plains, and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins .She was preceded in death by an infant sister Grace McAliney and maternal grandparents Attorney Robert E. and Mary O'Brien and paternal grandmother Zeta McKenna McAliney.

Maeve was a special joy to all who knew her. Her family would like to recognize in a special way the diocesan staff, faculty and students of the Individual Instruction program and the schools she attended.

Margaret Boylan of Scranton died Sunday at Hospice Community Care,Dunmore. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter F. A. Boylan who died July 14, 1994. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late William and Sarah Cairns Lees and was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the local garment industry.

Surviving are two sisters Christine Williams of Scranton and Rachel Santarsiero of Old Forge and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers James, William, John and Arthur Lees, and a sister Sarah Phelps.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Community Care and the nurses of the Home Health Care Profession for their kind care and compassion and support.

John J. Lynch, 97, of Dunmore died Wednesday at the Hospice Unit of the Regional Hospital of Scranton. Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Martin and Bridget Clunan Lynch and was a graduate of Dunmore High School and the University of Scranton. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II where he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars. Prior to his retirement he was a teacher in the Dunmore School District. He was the former secretary and treasurer of the Petersburg Yankee Minor League Baseball Association.

Surviving are nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers Joseph, Martin, George and William Lynch and three sisters Kathleen Lynch, Margaret Wirth, and Esther Dusenbury.

Stephen R. Mallis of Berlin Maryland and formerly of Dunmore died Monday at home. His wife is the former Charlotte Zayac and they were married for forty -seven years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stephen and Cathryn Husvar Mallis and was graduate of Dunmore High School and Lackawanna College and Penn State University. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served on the Presidential Helicopter detail. Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor in the Publications and Procedures Department at Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a former member of Holy Family Church, Scranton where he served as the secretary of the Church Social and Welfare Club for thirty-three years. He was also an usher at the church.

Also surviving are three sons; Stephen R. Mallis of Newport News VA; Michael D. Mallis of Scranton; and Robert J. Mallis of Boston,MA and a daughter Christine Carpenter of Berlin, MD two sisters Geraldine Mecca of New Jersey and Jean Fedor; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Major.

George D. Itterly of Dunmore died Saturday at the Hospice Unit of Community Medical Center. His wife is the former Rose Marie Murray and they were married for fifty-two years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Margaret Petty Itterly and was a graduate of Dunmore High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was a mechanic at the Tobyhanna Army Depot for over thirty years. He was a member of the United Baptist Church of Scranton.

Also surviving are a son David Itterly of Dickson City, four daughters Laura and husband William Reynolds of Avoca, Theresa and husband Lloyd Wombacker of Scranton, Judy of Lake Ariel, and Janice of Dunmore, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son George Itterly Jr.

Dr. Todd M. Angelo

November 24, 2011

Dr. Todd M. Angelo, 38, of Jefferson Township, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at Community Medical Center.

He is survived by the love of his life Sarah A. (Morkin) Angelo, and his unborn child, Baby Angelo. Cherished son of Cheryl Angelo and the late Ralph Angelo. Dearly loved by siblings: Dwayne (Karen) Angelo, Stephanie (Jason) Krasny, Douglas (Jessica) Angelo. Proud uncle of Jacob and Nicholas Angelo, Tyler and Rachel Krasny, Olivia Angelo, Amanda and Kaylee Treater, and Owen Morkin. Todd will be deeply missed by his father and mother in-law Thomas and Karla Morkin, brother and sister in-law Eric and Elizabeth Treater, brother-in-law Mark Morkin, aunts and uncles and his best friend, Gary Kopesky. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Charles and Grace Blaser and paternal grandparents Ralph and Margaret Angelo.

Todd attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2001, and Certificate in Orthodontics in 2004. During his studies, Todd served as President of the Blue and Gold Ambassador's Club, and was elected to the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society.

After graduating, Todd joined a private practice in the Pittsburgh area before purchasing and operating his own practice for two years. In 2006, Todd successfully completed his requirements for Board Certification by the American Board of Orthodontics and was certified in 2007. In 2007, Todd joined the practice Dr. J. Anthony Quinn and Dr. John Mariotti shortly thereafter becoming Quinn, Mariotti and Angelo Orthodontics.

Todd was a member of the American Dental Association, The American Association of Orthodontists, The Pennsylvania Dental Association, The Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontics and Tri-State Dental Society. Todd was serving as the President of the Scranton District Dental Society as well as a PDA delegate.

Todd had a passion for life. His many interests and hobbies included fly fishing, kayaking, airplanes, trains, and vacationing at Topsail Island beach. Todd enjoyed giving back to his community through charitable work. He was active with the National Children's Dental Health Month and was committed to the American Association of Orthodontists Foundations' Cases of the Future which supports education and research.
